“a poem for a wife”

I got flowers today.
It wasn’t my birthday
or any special day.
We had our first argument last night,
and he said a lot of cruel things
that really hurt me.
I know he is sorry
and didn’t mean the things he said
because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today.
It wasn’t our anniversary
or any other special day.
Last night, he threw me into a wall
and started to choke me.
It seemed like a nightmare.
I couldn’t believe it was real.
I know he must be sorry
because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today,
and it wasn’t Mother’s Day
or any other special day.
Last night, he beat me up again.
If I leave him, what will I do?
How will I take care of my kids?
What about money?
I’m afraid of him and scared to leave.
But I know he must be sorry
because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today.
Today was a very special day.
It was the day of my funeral.
Last night, he finally killed me.
If only I had gathered enough courage
and strength to leave him,
I would not have gotten flowers today

  1. TOBE UNKNOWN said,

Domestic violence (DV) is one of the saddest things that affects a human beings life. I know because I was a victim and I know personally how it affects the emotional and psychological self. Even a slap on a face with hand marks is considered domestic violence. It brought me to a level of fear where I had to carry a gun with me on one day and said to myself that this is not worth it and finally made the best decisions of my life — divorce the SOB! and leave him alone despite having a child to raise all by myself. I took the non-violence way and suffered tremendously due to an already pre-existing condition of depression and other ailments not fully apparent yet until unexpected things happens in life (i.e., motor vehicle accidents and extra trauma to the body causing a chronic ailment to precipitate and there is no cure for the chronic pain) and until life truly becomes much harder to deal with all the painful burdens and problems.

Whether or not an argument occurred and started the domestic violence does not give another person a right to hit and resolve their immature pent-up emotions of anger, rage, and violence towards another human being. The saddest thing with DV is the victim becomes fearful and ultimately has a syndrome called battered-wife syndrome where they eventually fight back and murder their significant other. I know violence does occur in both males and females. Also if both partner’s have a mental disorder or drug/alcohol problems and the abuse is a vicious cycle. Until finally incarceration takes place and their in the hands of the legal system.

THE ABOVE “POEM FOR A WIFE” IS ABOUT AWARENESS THAT WOMEN WHO SUFFER FROM ABUSIVE HUSBANDS, BOYFRIENDS, OR SIGNIFICANT OTHER SHOULD NOT EVER BE AFRAID TO LEAVE. NO ONE HAS A RIGHT TO OWN ANOTHER HUMAN BEING OR BE POSSESSIVE. THERE ARE PERSONALITY TYPES OF PEOPLE WHOM YOU COULD NEVER JUDGE UNTIL YOU REALLY GET TO KNOW THEM. THERE ARE CASES WITH A JECKYL AND HYDE PERSONALITY WHICH IS TRULY THE WORST KINDS. MAY GOD PUNISH THEIR SINS.
